Art direction

Getting the perfect photographs for step-by-step craft books.

Whilst working as RotoVision’s Art Editor, I was tasked with the art direction and organisation of photo shoots for a series of craft books. I had to work really closely with authors to understand the best visuals for the step-by-step processes – I’d receive an exciting box full of tools and samples and have to figure out how we would use them. It also involved sourcing props and venues where we could capture the crafts in a way that would inspire and delight the readers.

A good relationship with the photographer was essential in coming up with images for bespoke covers, section openers, galleries and step-by-step images that were beautiful as well as being useful.
